Must-Have Denim Shorts for the Summer

I’m always on the hunt for a good pair of denim, and with the summer season quickly approaching, my efforts to find flattering, comfortable, and stylish denim shorts are in full swing.

I have a strange relationship with denim, as a whole, especially as it relates to sizing—more often than not, one size will be just a ~little~ too restricting and the next size up will be too big for even a belt to keep the bottoms sitting comfortably at my waist. As many of you can relate, I’ve cycled through countless pairs of denim shorts throughout my life…not only to account for changes in size, but also changes in my style preferences—the color, the cut, the length, the rise, the detail. In my opinion, your choice of denim can make or break an outfit, and not only its outward appearance, but also our own perceptions of the way that we look and feel. This realization has caused me to go about my denim purchases differently, looking for pairs of shorts that are unique and within my style aesthetic, but also ones that fit and feel just as good as they look.

My wardrobe is currently in a transformational phase. Now that I’m entering into a new chapter of life, having just recently graduated from college and now preparing to enter the working world in just a few months, I’m looking to add more classic, versatile, and high-quality pieces to my closet. Unfortunately, I have found (through A LOT of shopping) that when it comes to summer clothing, denim shorts especially, high quality, long-lasting pieces (as long as clothing can actually last with consistent use) can be hard to find.

However, I believe that my lack of luck with shorts has just recently changed with my latest denim purchase—thank you Good American.

I splurged and purchased The Good Bermuda Shorts, in a light blue wash, from Good American, and in the few times that I have worn them this season, I can confidently say that they are the high-quality look and fit of shorts that I have been endlessly searching for. Resting a little below my natural waist, these mid-rise Bermuda Shorts are extremely flattering. They’re comfortably fitted around the legs, with the perfect amount of stretch, and, my favorite part, have a waistband that doesn’t gape open with every movement. They are also slightly frayed at the edges and include bright silver hardware for some added design. These shorts run ever so slightly big, so you can definitely size down if you prefer a more “structured” feel for your denim. I opted for my true size for a more relaxed and comfortable fit.  

Look Good. Fit Good. Feel Good. This one pair of shorts checks off all of the boxes on my denim must-have checklist…If these shorts are any indication of the Good American line of denim (and the reviews on their website more than support my findings), I will definitely be making some additional purchases from this brand in the near future.
