My Favorite Comeback Trend of the Season
With warmer weather quickly approaching, I figured it was the perfect time to talk about my favorite trend of this past Winter season—and just to give you a hint, it’s one that a lot of us are probably all too familiar with…
Picture this: it’s the late 2000s. Your alarm goes off at around 7:00 A.M., it’s time to get ready for another day—of elementary school for me. You make your bed, get washed up, and then go back into your room to finish getting ready before heading to the kitchen for breakfast. You open the door to your closet, scouting out options for that perfect outfit. A few looks back and forth and there it is, perfection. You take both pieces down from their hangers, admire your incredible sense of fashion, and excitedly change into your favorite Juicy Couture tracksuit—for me, a long sleeve pink velour set with “Juicy” spelled out in rhinestones across the lower back. You’re now ready to conquer the day…life is good.
…you can admit it, this was probably you too.
Well, if you haven’t guessed it by now, velour is back and it’s better than ever. The velour trend was a favorite of many “back in the day”. Juicy Couture was highly sought after for their wide variety of tracksuits, with styles suitable for any and every time of year. However, this trend faded, like a lot of them unfortunately do. For a while, Juicy Couture stopped producing these renowned sets, and the obsession with this particular style seemingly went with them. While there will always be people to continue on with a trend once its popularity diminishes, for the most part, the once in-style look is no longer a staple in people’s everyday wardrobe.
Fast forward to December of 2019, I was on a weekend trip with my family and happened to stumble upon a blue velour crewneck from Tommy Hilfiger. My mom was actually the one who pointed it out to me. The velour trend wasn’t truly back at this time, but she was drawn to it, and so was I. I thought it would add a new depth to my wardrobe, so I purchased it—and from there, velour was back…
Okay, I didn’t bring back the velour trend…but at this point, it was back in my mind.
However, this past Winter, especially, velour really has been re-establishing itself in the world of popular fashion, with brands like Juicy Couture and Skims bringing back the items to, once again, create that iconic velour set.
And if you’re not into the whole matching set look, swap out the pants with your favorite pair of high-rise jeans. Velour is versatile. You really can’t go wrong with styling it (yes, I guess you can, but you know what I mean).
They say the comeback is always stronger than the setback, and this fashion comeback story is definitely one of my favorites. Velour, happy to have you back…
