The Beauty Benefits of Coconut Oil

It just so happens that coconut oil has additional uses outside of its role in the kitchen. Yes, that’s right, beyond its contribution to the making of some of our favorite food recipes, coconut oil has also proven itself to be a beauty essential.

I could go on for all too long discussing the full extent of benefits surrounding the use of coconut oil in caring for our bodies, both internally and externally. However, I don’t think a detailed analysis of coconut oil is what you were expecting to find here—that is, a blog post written by a twenty-one-year-old—and, don’t worry, that’s not what I’m here to talk about today. I want to share with you the ways in which I have recently found coconut oil to be of significant benefit to the health of my hair.

I love my long hair, and, with the exception of the past year and a half, in which I sported short hair out of a developed curiosity of what having short hair would be like, I have almost always had long hair. Now that it has pretty much grown back to its “default” length, I am, once again, experiencing the difficulties of maintaining its health and integrity. Despite my consistent efforts to keep it deeply hydrated and protected from the heat released by styling tools, I have been rather unsuccessful in preventing an undesirable dry and brittle appearance, as well as the development of split ends…that is, until I began using coconut oil in my hair.

After seeing that coconut oil could be beneficial in hair care, I found my jar of coconut oil in the kitchen pantry, scooped out a decent portion with a spoon, rubbed it between my hands to “warm” it up, and began to run it through my hair, beginning at my scalp and ending at my unfortunate split ends.

Coconut oil has been said to act as a “deep conditioner” for hair, helping to retain both its natural and supplemental moisture (from previously-used hair care products), ultimately establishing a smooth and luminous finish among the surface of your hair. With this, the application of coconut oil to the ends of your hair can assist in the prevention of split ends, further maintaining its overall health.

Following this initial, inexperienced use, I was safely able to confirm the beneficial uses of coconut oil within hair care. Immediately after application, and progressively more so throughout the day, my hair, in its entirety, appeared smooth and luminous, as well as looked and felt significantly more hydrated. With that, I found that I had an easier time styling my hair and achieving the clean, up-do look that I was going for. Keep in mind that this was the FIRST time I was using coconut oil in my hair, and within hours after use—these results have only amplified following additional “treatments”.

No matter the length and texture of your hair—long or short, thick or thin, straight or curly—the benefits of coconut oil stand to enhance its overall appearance and health. If you’re interested in “testing” out its effects on your hair, I would recommend, at first, using whatever coconut oil is accessible to you, specifically whatever it is that you have in your kitchen pantry. Although designed for consumption, the use of your basic coconut oil will provide you with almost the same, if not identical, results as any specialty product. Then, if you’re like me, and you’re beyond satisfied with the effect that it’s having on your hair, you can look into purchasing a coconut-based product, one that is specifically designed for use in beauty. For me, that product is the Kopari Beauty 100% Organic Coconut Melt.

Regardless of your choice of product, I would definitely recommend incorporating coconut oil into your hair care routine. It’s been working wonders for my hair, and it just might do the same for yours…
